Defect Tracking

Verona DTS is a web-based defect tracking system built around a simple, flexible, work-flow. As defects get reported and then complete each step of the work-flow: New, Assigned, Resolved, Closed - email notifications are sent to originators, issue-owners and other stakeholders keeping them informed of progress. Detailed reports can be generated that provide visibility on the status of all issues for a project, and provide clear reporting on arrival rates, fix rates and backlog.

Submitting Defects

Defects are typically found during the project test phase. While in the Verona Test Management application, users may submit defect reports directly into the defect tracking system (no need to hop back and forth between multiple tools). For JIRA users we also integrate directly into that system. A Rich Text Editor is provided so users can report clear details of the problem, and also include attachments of screen shots or test logs.

Defect Workflow

> Open. Initial state for defects. Valid actions for Open defects are Fix and Force Close. You would Force Close an item that didn't require a normal fix, release, and test cycle – e.g. an entry wasn't actually a defect or an entry resulted in an enhancement request. Assigned. The defect has been assigned to a developer for correction. This state indicates that the defect is being actively worked on. Fixed. Once the Development team has fixed, unit tested, and made appropriate documentation updates, the entry should be moved to the Fixed state. Closed (Closure Mode) This is the terminal state. The Closure Mode field is used to indicate how/why the defect was closed. Possible options are:
- Verified: The Test Team has verified the fix.
- WAD (Works As Designed): Not a defect.
- Duplicate: Duplicate of an existing defect

Other Features

E-mail alerts and Reminders. People involved in working a specific issue - managers, engineers, support personnel - receive alerts each time there is a state change for an issue. Also, email reminders can be sent automatically to issue/action owners as due dates approach.

Track Changes and History. A complete history of all changes to defects is maintained showing timestamps and who changed. All stakeholders can be informed via email alerts of all changes.
